For those of us fed up with jammed shopping malls and overpriced must-have gifts, the holidays have lost some of their charm. Happily, the good citizens of the Woodland Heights, one of the loveliest neighborhoods in town, have found a way to recapture that ol time festive feelin with Lights in the Heights, a one-night antidote to the mania of holiday hoopla. A 16-block area full of turn-of-the-20th-century Victorian and craftsman-style homes are decked out in sparkling decorations and Christmas lights galore for the event. The back-to-simpler-times feel is helped along by roaming carolers, handbells concerts, dancers, cookies and neighborhood bands performing outdoors. 6 to 10 p.m. Woodland Heights (bordered by Studewood, Omar, Florence and Bayland).
