If youย’ve ever longed for a simple, straightforward exhibit of contemporary art, it doesnย’t get any plainer than the current show at Wade Wilson Art. ย“Liquid Lightย” is described as an exhibition of three large-scale, yellow-based paintings by Joseph Marioni. And thatย’s that. Like the white paintings of Robert Ryman, currently on view at the Menil Collection, at first glance it would be easy to dismiss Marioniย’s works as worn-out theoretical statements, precious minimalist refinements. Shockingly, though, the monochrome paintings possess an interesting kind of power ย— like a weary, exhausted Rothko. In fact, ย“Liquid Lightย” would make for an appealing destination after a visit to the Menil. 4411 Montrose. Through January 5, 2008.
