As a child, Mayuko Ono Gray attended calligraphy school every Saturday in Japan. That experience influenced Gray’s most recent exhibit, “Japanese Calligraphy My Way,” a collection of graphite drawings incorporating traditional Japanese calligraphy with contemporary Western-style drawing. Gray, a mostly figurative artist who is now based in Galveston, started the calligraphy project last year using proverbs from her childhood, such as “Regret never comes first” and “Anything that takes a form will break sooner or later.” 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. Sundays.
