MECA’s Day of the Dead Festival is one of the city’s largest and most colorful Día de los Muertos celebrations. This year the Sixth Ward arts organization expects 6,000 people to join in, good-naturedly mocking death and celebrating life through music, food and the arts. The biggest draws are undoubtedly the performers. Two stages will run simultaneous performances all day, featuring such hot local bands as Sister Sister y los Misters, Sol Azul and Vital, along with a full slate of world music and dance. And, of course, MECA’s own award-winning mariachis and talented alumni will represent. 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. tomorrow. 1900 Kane Street.
