Helen McCrory (The Last of the Haussmans) takes the title role in Ben Power’s new version of Medea. Directed by Carrie Cracknell and set in the time before the Trojan War, the tragedy chronicles Medea’s heartbreak and descent into madness. A loyal wife, Medea has followed her husband, Jason, into exile. A loving mother, she spends her life caring for her two young sons. When Jason abandons his family, Medea is doomed to ostracism and separation from her sons. Wounded by her husband, who ignores all the sacrifices she’s made for him and her children, she unleashes her deadly wrath, destroying everything Jason loves. This performance was filmed at the National Theatre of London for a limited-run broadcast.
