In Houston, we’re used to the whole free museum thing, but on Saturday, September 17, the public will have even more free access to exhibits and information on art, history, science and nature.
Sixteen area museums will waive their general admission fees on that day from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the fifteenth annual Museum District Day.
In addition to the regular exhibitions, Museum District Day will include live demonstrations and performances. There will also be free shuttle buses going back and forth among the museums.
Participating museums include:
Buffalo Soldiers National Museum
Contemporary Arts Museum Houston Czech Center Museum Houston
Houston Center for Contemporary Craft
Houston Center for Photography Houston Museum of Natural Science
The John C. Freeman Weather Museum The Jung Center
Lawndale Art Center
Museum of Fine Arts, Houston Rice University Art Gallery
Instead of free admission, the Health Museum will have “an outdoor live science experience” during the day. The museum will also provide a limited number of vouchers for free general admission in the fall upon request to Museum District Day attendees.
