With 18 world-class museums and a slew of fun activities, Houstonยs annual Museum District Day is a highlight of the summer arts season. Everyone from grizzled museum hounds to rank novices will find something to fascinate, amaze or just amuse them. Scheduled activities ranging from the live science show ยFood Unleashedย at the Health Museum to a reenactment of the life of Underground Railroad hero Harriet Tubman at the Buffalo Soldiers National Museum to music by Houston Press award winners D.R.U.M. at the Menil Collection. The Contemporary Arts Museum will offer artistยs tours of the ยNexus Texasย exhibit, and for kids, thereยll be ยTall Texas Talesย storytelling and trick roping by Cowboy Bob. At the Holocaust Museum, families will see moving exhibits like camp survivor Esther Krinitzยs quilting show ยThrough the Eye of a Needle.ย At Lawndale Arts Center, local graffiti artists will decorate the sidewalk with chalk drawings, while the Weather Museum will sponsor a scavenger hunt. For children, the highlight may well be at the Childrenยs Museum of Houston, where they will have the opportunity to make and test miniature cars and rockets. Sounds like a blast to us.
