Producer, musician and beatboxer Taylor McFerrin will kick off the new outdoor concert series Nights on Blue Bayou: City Soundscapes today. The son of vocalist Bobby McFerrin, Taylor melds hip-hop with jazz and neo-soul, and there’s a smooth, ambient vibe to his sound. Rooted in 1960s R&B, Taylor is a one-man band, putting together keyboards, synthesizers, samples, vocals and beatboxing to create his own signature sound. You’ll hear something new from McFerrin — just don’t expect to hear Bobby’s “Don’t Worry, Be Happy!” The poor boy probably heard enough of that particular tune growing up. Upcoming Nights on Blue Bayou: City Soundscapes performers include Sona and DeKam vs. Nalepa. 7 p.m. The Sabine-to-Bagby Promenade on Buffalo Bayou. For information, call 713-743-5548 or visit
