Cinema enters the contemporary art world in the new exhibition ”Perspectives 178: CINEPLEX,” opening this week at CAMH, whose Zilkha Gallery will transform into a unique cinematheque space for a whole season. Expect projections, screenings and events, featuring a variety of experimental works, essay films, documentaries and live cinema events.

Among the screenings: a retrospective of assemblage artist Bruce Connerโ€™s complete body of work, made between 1958 and 2008, as well as award-winning director Sophie Fiennesโ€™s feature-length experimental film The Pervertโ€™s Guide to Cinema, which incorporates famous scenes from memorable films in a funny, thought-provoking manner. In addition, acclaimed group Musiqa will perform all-new scores for selected scenes from popular cinema, premiering new compositions written by Rice University and University of Houston students.

While the majority of the special screenings will take place Thursday evenings throughout the length of the exhibition, many projected works will be on view during regular museum hours. Opening reception 6:30 to 9 p.m. today. The exhibition will be on display through July 8. 5216ย Montrose. For information, call 713โ€‘284โ€‘8250 or visit camh.org. Free.
