Rockbox, the weekly dance installment at the Proletariat, is getting a little help from HoustonSoReal hip-hop guru (and former Press contributor) Matt Sonzala for the Punky Reggae Party. The night will feature Austinยs Grimy Styles, a dub/reggae band Sonzala says arenยt youยre typical dreadheaded weirdoes. ยA lot of the white, hippie reggae bands, theyยre kind of goofy, you know? These dudes, theyยre the real deal,ย says Sonzala. The night will also feature Queen Majesty, a New York DJ known for her rack ย ahem ย of records. Her highness has an impressive collection of dancehall and reggae, and it even earned her her own program on NYยs popular East Village Radio. You can see her ย and, boys, youยll likely be glad you did ย along with resident RockBox DJs Witnes and Dayta today after Grimy Styles open at 10 p.m.
