The idea of beauty and its worth is at the center of reasons to be pretty, currently making its Houston premiere at Theater LaB Houston. Things start when Greg makes a careless remark about how attractive a co-worker is and goes on to add that his own girlfriend Steph lacks a pretty face. That remark gets back to Steph (ouch!). Things get worse when Greg’s friend Kent and his wife Carly add their opinions. Soon the foursome is facing a crisis, fighting their way through a twisted knot of infidelity, betrayals and lies. Called a comic-drama by Theater LaB, reasons to be pretty is startling and often brutal in its honest examination of the worth of beauty and society’s obsession with physical appearance. 8 p.m. January 5. 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, with additional performances at 5 p.m. January 23 and 30 and 8 p.m. February 3.
