Don’t worry, you don’t have to remember the name of Houston-based band Audible>Stellar>Hypnotic>Situations. They go by A>S>H>S. Since forming in 1997 as a tribal percussion and electronic noise band, A>S>H>S has morphed into a six-piece lineup, complete with a saxophonist, turntablist, conga player and keyboardist. To add to the complexity and unique range of sound, there are elements of dark funk, free jazz and a swirling miasma of atonal electronic beats. All this is backed by the solid rhythm of band co-founders Jason Williams on drums and Scott Nichols on bass.

Today the band members host a release party for their self-titled CD at their Commerce Street studio space. “This is us in the most palatable form,” says Williams. Before A>S>H>S pummels you with the truly hypnotic light show that accompanies its live show, Houston Press reggae/dub favorites Dubtex will take the stage. DJs Joe B, Ceeplus & the House of Bad Knives, and Andy from the B-Sides kick things off.
