The Big Range Dance Festival is like a six-course meal for contemporary dance lovers — each installment as delectable as the next. Thirty-five choreographers and more than 100 dancers from Houston, Washington, D.C. and New York will storm Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex for the fourth annual event, serving all-new, cutting-edge works. The main course will consist of three nights of premieres, including creations from local companies such as Suchu Dance, FLY Dance Company and Dancepatheatre, complemented by two free midweek screenings of dance video works. But the highlight should be June 11’s “dance gathering,” 20 two- to four-minute pieces by emerging and established choreographers, including Kuumba House and Sara Draper. It’s like a tossed salad of modern movement. The event kicks off with brand-new numbers at 8 p.m. today.
