Houston actors Christina Keefe and James Belcher star in Soul Mates, the latest installment in the Wordsmyth Reading series. A new play by Israela Margalit (seen above), Soul Mates centers on Carlie Harper, a woman who walks out to her porch with a cup of coffee one morning and watches as her life falls apart — and then back together again.
“It’s a psychological drama,” Margalit tells us. She says the play was inspired by her own experience on a front porch early one morning. Unlike Carlie’s, Margalit’s life didn’t change in those few minutes, but the idea for Soul Mates was born. “[Someone] said at the end of the play, [Carlie] has a ‘reassembled identity.’ I like that; that’s exactly what happens.” Margalit will be in attendance at the reading.
