Mike Cortez, the writer behind the blog bitemehouston, has put together the Texas Tequila Throwdown. “Basically, we’ve got seven tequila companies from all over Texas,” he tells us. “People are going to be able to come out and sample each tequila.” Cortez notes that each brand will have three types of tequila on hand – Blanco, Resposado and Aยejo. With seven companies and three tequilas per company, that sounds like 21 shots. Even at sample size, that’s a lot of tequila. But Cortez has some distractions lined up to keep people from getting completely wasted. “DJ Ash will be coming out. I will be interviewing each company and giving everyone a little bit of information about the tequilas.” And it’s all happening at The Coffee Groundz, so there are plenty of nonalcoholic options available, too. 3 p.m. 2503 Bagby.
