You know when you feel like you haven’t accomplished that much, but then you think, “Hey, I’m still so young, I’ve got time”? Don’t kid yourself: Mozart composed his opera The Abduction from the Seraglio at age 25 — and it wasn’t even his first one. The 1782 “singspiel” opera, performed today by the Houston Grand Opera, tells of the abduction of the noblewoman Konstanze and her two attendants by Turkish pirates, and their imprisonment by the harem-keeper Pasha Selim. Pasha falls for Konstanze, but she longs for her lover Belmonte, who organizes an effort to save her.

Performed in German with English subtitles, the show will star HGO alums Tamara Wilson (as Konstanze) and Heidi Stober (as the maidservant Blonde). Paul Groves (as Belmonte) and Nicholas Phan (as Belmonte’s valet, Pedrillo) also appear. 7:30 p.m. today, January 20, January 26, January 30 and February 2. Wortham Center, 500 Texas.
