Itยs entertaining to watch the women of Real Housewives and Top Model. But less entertaining is the cold, hard fact that women are still confused and tormented by societyยs notions of body image and gender roles. In The Convenient Woman, a dance-theater performance showing today at DiverseWorks, Houston-based choreographers Teresa Chapman and Leslie Scates have taken the quest for the female archetype and recognized the many absurdities along the way. Working with video designer Frederique deMontblanc, the two take inspiration from sources such as the classic ย60s sex tome The Sensuous Woman to the modern-day atrocity My Mommy Beautiful, which explains the miracle of plastic surgery to kids. Using dance and video montages, the two women will try to get to the root of why weยre so damn dissatisfied ย and have a good laugh while they do it. 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
