In The Tales of Hoffmann (Les Contes d’ Hoffmann), poor Hoffmann is in love with a mechanical doll (seems a special pair of glasses allows him to see her as a real woman), then a backstabbing courtesan who wants to steal his reflection from the mirror, and finally a woman about to meet her death. It’s all the work of a muse who wants Hoffman for herself. This might not be the happiest of tales, but it will be beautifully sung by the professional cast at Opera in the Heights. 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Through October 2. Lambert Hall, 1703 Heights. For information, call 713-861-5303 or visit www.operaintheheights.org. $20 to $49.

Thursdays-Saturdays. Starts: Sept. 23. Continues through Oct. 2, 2010
