Playing its part in Art Houston 2010, ยThe Whole Shebangย will feature the works of three artists, Tom d. Duimstra, Mark Fox and Eric Davis. The exhibit is Hooks-Epstein Galleriesย first display of outsider art. ยThe line between outsider art and contemporary art is a very thin one,ย said Eric Davis, the galleryยs curator. The work done by outsider artists typically includes materials that are easily at hand ยMany contemporary artists also use readily available materials to create work,ย said Davis. What sets the two genres apart, however, is the perception of the artists. ยOutsider artists have long [been] thought to be poverty stricken and mentally challenged in some form or another,ย said Davis. 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
