You don’t have to look any further to see the devastating effects of Donald Trump and Elon Musk’s “government efficiency department” (I’m not typing that dumbass acronym) than the Houston Food Bank. The Food Bank, which feeds roughly a million people across Southeast Texas, is losing $11 million in funding thanks to cuts to the U.S. Department of Agriculture and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

But you can help. This Saturday (May 3), the Star Wars Enthusiasts of Houston Fan Groupย is holding their annual “Feed the Force” community food drive at the Regal Edwards Marq*E as part of their Star Wars Day celebration. According to the press release, the drive was launched back in 2015 to combat the “dark forces” of hunger in the Houston community.

In addition to the food drive, the event features free comic books, cosplay and photo ops, giveaways, and other activities. “Free Comic Book Day” will also be represented by other exhibitors.

For each non-perishable food item or canned good donated, you’ll also earn a raffle ticket for a prize drawing. Will it counter the deleterious impacts of the wannabe Sith Lord in the White House? No, but anything helps. And you’ll probably meet a Mandalorian or three.

Date: Saturday, May 3, 2025
Time: 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: Regal Edwards Marq*E, 7600 Katy Freeway
