Anna Thomas doesn’t remember her prom too fondly. “Mine was at the non-commissioned officers club on [a] military base,” says Thomas, the co-curator of Total Eclipse of the Heart: A Prom for Queers and Misfits. Maybe your big night was a big flop, too. “[Maybe] you didn’t get to wear what you wanted or you didn’t get to take the date you wanted,” she says. This event is your “chance to do it over,” Thomas adds. “You can go stag, you can bring two dates, you can bring three.”

Whatever the size of your entourage, this prom will definitely be cooler than the one the Student Council organized. Resident Dansepark DJs Mr. Christopher, Mr. Pink Eyes and Shoes will provide the music for the evening, and there will be a couple of sets by the event’s official prom band, drag rockers The Gendermyn. Get your picture taken on a crescent moon in front a of starry backdrop and, of course, don’t forget to vote for prom court. Those interested in running should arrive before 10 p.m. “We’ll take a Polaroid and put it up on our board and then folks can vote,” Thomas says. Ladies interested in being crowned queen should keep in mind that drag queens don’t play around when it comes to contests, so you’ll need to bring your A game if you want to take home the tiara.
