Enjoy highlights from the 2010 Dance Salad performance during todays screening of A Touring Taste of Dance Salad Festival. Last spring dozens of European dance groups performed some of their most innovative and cutting-edge works over four days here in Houston. Selecting clips from those performances for the film A Touring Taste falls to Dance Salad Director Nancy Henderek. In the film, the considerations are very much technical limitations. Filming is all done with real performance lighting in front of a live audience. So if someones done a really great triple turn, if its dark, it doesnt get into the film.
Thankfully, Henderek has more than eight hours of film from which to select an hours worth of clips. Henderek says that while Touring Taste will certainly be thrilling to viewers who didnt attend Dance Salad last spring, audience members who were there may find a few surprises. Even with the same group, and even with the same choreography, it can become a different experience that you can appreciate in a new way. Performances that looked great on the stage can look even better on film because you see them close up. If a person had tickets on the last row, they might have really enjoyed the patterns of a group moving across stage, but they might have missed the facial expressions. They can see those in the film. 6:30 p.m. Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, 1001 Bissonnet. For information, call 713-639-7515 or visit www.dancesalad.org. Free.
