At Trash the Dress, women roll around in dirt, climb trees and jump in the bayou in their wedding dresses. More than 60 photographers will be roaming the Theater District today ready to snap brides destroying their sacred gowns. Women all over the U.S. are participating in similar events, indulging in a guilty pleasure and ending up with some interesting photos. Sure, they could have saved their gowns after all, they do cost a small fortune or donated them to less fortunate brides, but after hours and hours of trying to keep them clean before and after the ceremony, it might feel nice to let that heel tear the hem right before splashing into a giant puddle.
The day is also open to anyone sporting a formal dress they would like to mess. And hey, you dont have to pose to participate. Were guessing this event is going to make for some great people-watching. 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Theater District. For information, call 713-559-0932 or visit www.urban-trash-the-dress.com. Free.
