For a preview of the musicians youยll be seeing in the worldยs top orchestras for the next 50 years, donยt miss tonightยs performance by the UBS Verbier Festival Orchestra. More than 100 of the planetยs finest young musicians, ages 17 to 29, have been selected from among thousands and are coming together for a world tour. The musicians, who hail from 30 nations, will be joined by two distinguished elders, Swiss conductor Charles Dutoit and Argentine pianist Martha Argerich. Chopin Competition winner Argerich will perform Piano Concerto No. 3 by Prokofiev, then join the orchestra as they perform one of the Romantic periodยs most important compositions, Hector Berliozยs five-movement Symphonie Fantastique. Houston is the groupยs second stop before they head to the likes of Genoa, Stockholm and Lyon; odds are many of them will be back. 8 p.m. Jones Hall, 615 Louisiana. For information, call 713-224-7575 or visit www.houstonsymphony.org. $25 to $90.
