Westheimer Block Party

The Westheimer Block Party is a crash course on the local music scene. The festival includes six stages showcasing more than 70 acts from H-town spanning every genre. There might be a few bad apples in the bunch, but the overlapping itinerary guarantees you won’t have to put up with them for long.

The country-fused sounds of up-and-comers News on the March, the always refreshing lyrics of hip-hopper Perseph One, the rocking riffs of The American Sharks and the lulling voice of Sabra Laval are guaranteed to leave us sprinting from stage to stage in order to catch all these acts.

It’s also a great time to check up on old favorites: How is Elaine Greer doing since she employed a full band and changed her name to The Holly Halls? What the hell have The Fucking Transmissions been up to? And what’s the latest sound from the Piano Vines? (Good thing our feet have recovered from SXSW.) Performances start at noon. 300 to 500 block of Westheimer. For information and a complete schedule of bands, visit www.freepresshouston.com. Free.
