As always, the Westheimer Block Party offers up one of the best surveys of local music. And weย’re not just talking quantity. The organizers have lined up six stages worth of Whoย’s Who for a schedule that will having you thinking, ย“Well, if I see this, Iย’ll have to miss this.ย” Weย’ll leave the planning up to you, but give special attention to metal duo Golden Axe. These guys havenย’t played locally in a while, so donย’t take the opportunity for granted, because who knows when youย’ll get to see Warren Hatfield shred his axe again. Once youย’ve recovered from his head-exploding riffs, make sure you clear your ears for the rockabilly sounds of The Octanes; the hip-hop grooves of Karina Nistal, Tha Fucking Transmissions, Perseph One and Nosaprise; and the rock stylings of Peekaboo Theory, Cop Warmth and Riff Tiffs. There will also be performances by Sideshow Tramps, Scattered Pages, Elaine Greer and a hell of a lot more. And donย’t forget all the booths featuring local artists hawking their wares from noon to 8 p.m. 300 to 500 blocks of Westheimer. For a complete band schedule and information, visit
