Cinemaphiles fondly recall 1938ยs Academy Award-winning You Canยt Take It With You, though plenty might consider the tale itself to be something of a fusty old relic. Still, once youยve seen the opening act of the Texas Repertory Theatre Companyยs production of the play, itยs likely that youยll be reminded (perhaps to your chagrin) that tales about screwed-up families never go out of fashion. George Kaufman and Moss Hartยs Pulitzer Prize-winning comedy, which hit Broadway in 1936, centers around the eccentric-but-happy Sycamores and the rich-but-miserable Kirbys, whose clashing lifestyles threaten the romance between their respective offspring, Alice and Tony. Throw in a crazy grandfather who chooses not to pay income taxes and a Russian duchess-turned-waitress, and you just might not care anymore that you couldnยt convince your dad to vote Obama. 3 p.m. 4950 FM 1960, Ste A-7.
