The two weeks leading up to Fat Tuesday kicked off last Friday with a parade along Galveston’s historic Strand celebrating the island’s 100th Mardi Gras. Friday’s parade was a tribute to George Mitchell, the BOI preservationist who revived Mardi Gras Galveston in 1985 following a 44-year break imposed by war and other challenges. Festivities continue every weekend and some week nights leading up to Tuesday, March 8. PHOTOS BY SON LAM
