Current bands like the Buffalo Killers, Rose Hill Drive and the Sword are putting their own modern twists on balls-to-the-wall, no-girls-allowed ’70s-style hard rock. But L.A. power trio Nebula’s take is more cosmic than Conan, though the swirling guitar and consciousness-expanding vocals of Eddie Glass are still forceful enough to rocket you into space regardless of your proximity to Cape Canaveral (especially if they bring their background film projector and screen). Originally splitting off from desert-rock faves Fu Manchu in 1997, today’s Nebula includes original member Glass, bassist Tom Davies and brand-spanking-new drummer (as of last month!) Jimmy Sweet. Nebula’s most recent EP, Heavy Psych (TeePee), and current split-7″ single “The Perfect Rapture” don’t mess too much with the formula, but they don’t need to. And carrying roach clips is optional — though you can probably find several in the audience.
