Welcome back to Turning the Screw, Rocks Off’s weekly rap post. It probably won’t rhyme, at least most of the time. Email tips to introducingliston@gmail.com. Thanks, homies.
Single of the Week:
Wire To Wire
Lil’ Flip’s new mixtape is supposed to drop this week. Anybody else already hate that Kim Kardashian ode he did? At least it’s making for some terribly uncomfortable moments via the dance contest he’s holding for it.
TTS finally heard that Z-Ro and Chill album that they released about two weeks ago. It’s good, but one MC is clearly better than the other. Bet you can’t guess which.
How is that kid already cooler than us? At least we’re still cooler than this kid.
The Game is still tugging on Jay-Z’s cape; here’s audio of his dis track. We were going to side with Jigga in this beef – because, if he responds, he will win – but Game gives a head-nod to Pimp C, so we’re pretty much required to pull for him. Plus, the line where he says “D.O.A.? No. T-Pain stays, old nigga goes” is undeniably funny.
Great premise for an article on Hiphopdx about rappers getting outshined by guests on their own songs. Ironically, the article itself is less interesting than the comment section.
The latest submission in the Weird Rapper Spokespersons For Various Corporate Companies competition: Naughty By Nature for Microsoft.
Female fans are none too pleased with Drake’s “Best I Ever Had” video. We, on the other hand, think it might be the best thing ever.
We read this thing about how Weezy may or may not have been passed out when he was supposed to be doing a show, but the only thing we could focus on was the fact that he was going to get paid $432K for it. That’s wild. Think about it like this: If he performed 24 hours a day for two years straight he would still be getting paid more than $1,000 an hour.
From the We Should’ve Posted This About Two Weeks Ago file: 50 Cent’s “Okay, You’re Right” video is super cool.
Nas is already talking about his tenth studio LP, which he says he’ll begin as soon as his Damien Marley collaboration album is complete. Remember when Jay had that “you make one good album every ten years” remark said about him a while back? It’s just about time for another good one.
Flo Rida right rounded his way onto Forbes’ top-earning rappers list.
An R&B album from Ghostface. Sort of.
Ja Rule would like to inform rappers that they have 60-90 days before he puts his penis in their mouths. That’s considerate of him.
