An e-mail blast from Sarah Gish of www.saveourlandmarks.org warns that the process of tearing down the River Oaks Shopping Center has begun in earnest.
Weingarten Realty filed paperwork with the city Monday as a first step towards demolishing the curved part of the center (think Three Brothers bakery).
There are competing bureaucratic processes going on, with Weingarten trying to take the place down and preservationists trying to get it declared historic. (Of course, in Houston that wonโt mean much, but we guess itโs a start.)
The public meeting on the demolition request is set for Wednesday, 3 p.m. at the City Hall annex at 900 Bagby. Think of all the danish youโve gotten at Three Brothers, and lend a hand. – Richard Connelly
