It’s been talked about for some months, but now there is an official date: The Borders at Westheimer and Gessner will be closing January 16.
Three other Borders have been announced as on the endangered list — locations in Willowbrook Mall, the Houston Center and Northwest Mall — but the Gessner Borders had not been specified for extinction.
Workers had been telling customers the end was near; now the store has posted signs with the actual last-day announcement.
The location held the distinction of being the single Borders closest to a Luther’s Pappas BBQ; now all that is gone.
Next best option: The Meyerland Borders, close by a James Coney Island.
