Eighteen-year-old Jaque Fields of Houston was comparing pistols with another man when one of the guns went off, resulting in his death, say Houston police who are investigating the case.

Police said the shooting at 5734 Reed Road occurred about 12:45 p.m. on Sunday November 11. Fields was pronounced dead at the scene.

The case will be referred to a Harris County Grand Jury.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant M. McStravick and Senior Police Officer P. Vela reported:

Mr. Fields and another male were sitting on the front porch at the above address comparing their pistols when the victim requested to look at the other male’s pistol. As the other male handed the victim the pistol, the victim grasped the pistol and the weapon fired, fatally striking the victim.
