Unfair Fare
I bet this max $100,000 liability [for Metro] is a part of Texas’s “tort reform” package [“And the Winner Is…,” by Richard Connelly, October 8]. Can you imagine how little $100,000 can buy you in medical expenses?

I hope those responsible for tort reform are never run over by a bus. But then again, maybe then they would understand what they have done.

Shel Game
Great article on the new Y2K magazine [“Airhead Journalism Alert!,” The Insider, by Tim Fleck, October 8]. You called it for what it is — drivel. In addition to the obvious problems — a socialite wielding a thesaurus (I believe this proves that there is a direct correlation between increased Ctrl+F7 use and a decrease in IQ) and the fact that this “cyberzine” lacks a cyber site, together with the utterly confusing layout — it gives a whole new meaning to the phrase “there’s a new game in town.” Rather than this phrase being a euphemism for magazine competition, it seems Shel is giving us Houston’s version of “Where’s Waldo?” with her incestuous role(s) of “editor”/model. The Houston Press still has no competition!

Yellow Dog Days
You guys over there, especially Tim Fleck, are truly the cat’s meow. I haven’t stopped laughing since last Wednesday, when I read the article on Judge Galik [“No, No, Annette!,” by Tim Fleck, October 1].

Talk about bold and brazen. F. Richard Leach wrote in his letter “Nobody’s Business” [October 8] that you guys are “yellow dog” journalists.

Hear, hear! Every dog has his day. As long as the focus is on Clinton and his tawdry little affair, everything seems to be okay. But now we see that nasty, trashy little affairs are equal opportunity, available for all political parties to partake of.

I wonder, does she ever think about the feelings of those poor women or men who have their cases heard in her court, when their homes, families and lives in general have been destroyed by infidelity? Oh well, I guess being a professional means that you’re able to separate your personal and work lives.

He’s a Real Riot
Appreciated the props for naming La Resistencia as the “Best ‘Radical’ Leftist Political Group” in Houston [in the 1998 Best of Houston issue, September 24]. However, there are some points that need to be clarified.

I have never taken credit for the 1978 Moody Park rebellion following the 1977 police murder of Jose Campos Torres. For one year before the rebellion, I did lead people in demanding justice for Torres. Many times, including in my testimony during our felony riot trial, I have spoken proudly of participating in and publicly defending the rebellion. However, after 20 years of the police, government and media saying that I incited over 1,500 people to rise up against the police, I will accept the honor if they insist.
