On June 9, protesters gathered in front of the Chinese Consulate in Houston to protest the Yulin Dog Meat and Lychee Festival. The effort was part of a multi-city protest (San Francisco, New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Montreal and Toronto) to protest the 10-day festival held in Yulin, China. Not only are dogs and cats consumed, but they are frequently stolen pets who are often tortured prior to consumption as it is believed this will increase virility and keep believers cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
