Well, Curt Schilling decided the best way to settle the Barry Bonds issue was to apologize. Which, yesterday, Schilling did, stating that “it was absolutely irresponsible and wrong to say what I did. I don’t think it’s within anyone’s right to say the things I said yesterday and affect other peoples lives in that way.”
Red Sox manager Terry Francona has also advised Schilling to keep his trap shut. Good luck with that. And what makes the whole thing better, beloved Red Sox icon David Ortiz not only supports Bonds, but he can’t even say that he has never taken steroids. So, maybe Curt really needs to start paying a little more attention before he accuses people of steroid usage, or generally, just goes around opening his mouth.
On a personal note: I noted that the edition of yesterday’s Chronicle that I saw did not include anything about this Schilling matter. So, I’m happy to say that I scooped Houston’s leading information source. — John Royal
