State authorities have increased an award for information leading to the capture of a “sexually violent predator” who walked out of a Houston halfway house that has a habit of just letting these dudes walk off.
John Michael Enard, 58, removed his ankle monitor and strolled out of the Southeast Texas Transitional Center, owned by Florida-based GEO Group, January 19. The Texas Department of Public Safety warned that Enard “has made the comment that he will re-offend before he goes back to prison.” He was paroled from a 75-year-sentence for aggravated kidnapping and aggravated sexual assault in 1986.
Southeast Texas Transitional Center was formerly the Ben A. Reid Community Correctional Facility; apparently GEO thought that, in the wake of multiple offender walk-offs, it’d be easier to change the name than tighten up security and whatnot. After all, we’re only dealing with public safety here. (We think a better name would’ve been “The Sieve.”)
