Police are investigating the death of a seven-month-old girl who died after being left in the care of her grandfather.
An autopsy is being performed to determine the cause of death for the child, whose identity has not been released.
HPD says the baby was left with her grandfather at a home in the 10500 block of Hammerly on the northwest side of town about 2 p.m. Tuesday.
The grandfather, police say, “put her down for a nap in the afternoon. Another tenant of the apartment at the above address came home and found the baby unresponsive, between the crib rail and the mattress.”
HFD paramedics took the child to Texas Children’s Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
