A convenience store worker was murdered in a robbery on the southwest side Wednesday night, and a suspect has been arrested.
The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed, was working at a Chevron station in the 11300 block of Fondren about 9 p.m. Wednesday when Tony Mayfield, 26, asked him for help with lottery tickets, police say.
The victim came out from behind the counter to help, Mayfield attacked him and then killed him in the station’s bathroom, police say. He took some money from the register and ran, but was captured nearby by HPD officers.
