Intoxication manslaughter charges have been filed against the driver of a truck that rammed into a vehicle and caused the death of two men Monday afternoon on the Gulf Freeway.
Michael Gregory Petty, 28, was charged in the accident, which occured about 12:30 p.m. Monday in the 18900 block of the freeway, south of El Dorado Boulevard.
Police say Petty was driving a Toyota Tacoma at “a high rate of speed and dodging in and out of traffic” when he clipped the back drivers side of another Tacoma, causing it to roll over several times before landing in the grass near the highway’s shoulder.
The names of the two victims have not been released, pending notification of their families. One was pronounced dead at the scene; the other, who was tossed from the vehicle and was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Clear Lake Regional Medical Center, where he died.
