This morning the organizers of Fan Fest announced it would not be operational today because of the predictions of bad weather.
CenterPoint Energy continued to send out alerts saying that it is ready to handle whatever weather comes our way, sending out this statement this morning:
“CenterPoint Energy is actively monitoring weather conditions and preparing to respond to impacts from potentially heavy rainfall and potential for some flooding expected to impact the Greater Houston area later today through early Friday. As of 7 a.m. today, the National Weather Service forecasts two to five inches of rain, with isolated totals of six to eight inches through midweek. The actions CenterPoint is taking to prepare include pre-positioning its frontline workforce and resources to respond to and resolve any potential impacts on its customers’ electric service safely and as quickly as possible.”
Over at Space City Weather, Eric Berger was predicting the possibility of Stage 2 flooding as the week goes on. There is some uncertainty in the forecast, he said, but for now he is concerned about the chance for significant flooding.
What’s about to happen he says, is the work of two different weather systems coming to our area.
“We have dual flood threats this week. The first one, up today and Tuesday, concerns a weak front that will move into the region and provide an impetus for showers and thunderstorms, with heavy rainfall a distinct threat.
“Then, later on Wednesday and possibly lasting into Friday, a slow-moving tropical disturbance will bring a surge of moisture into the region and create conditions where very high rainfall rates and serious flooding are possible. However we simply do not know where the greatest rainfall totals from this tropical disturbance will end up.”
As for the Fan Festival:
