Best Kolache: The Original Kolache Shoppe

Sure you can get kolache filled with everything from barbecue brisket to mac and cheese these days, but there’s something to be said about a time-honored tradition. That’s what you’ll find at this vintage Czech pastry shop, which has been around since 1956. Here, the yeast dough is pillowy soft and just-sweet, dimpled with classic fillings like peach, blackberry, poppy seed and sweet cheese. If it’s the savory klobasniky you’re after, you’ll find those, too. Get them loaded with sausage and jalapeño; and add on a few Hot Pocket-like croissants filled with roast beef, bacon and cheese while you’re at it.
