Sharp Shooters: The fat and snappy pickled cherry peppers on offer from the Euro-market at Urban Foods [909-A Texas, (713)225-FOOD] are plumply stuffed with a hundred folds of salty prosciutto di Parma and firm ivory wedges of provolone cheese, then packed in olive oil. “They’re not so much fiery hot as they are full of flavor,” the white-coated counter man earnestly explains. “And they are addictive,” warns store manager Rick Walters. The “shooters,” as they’re called, are bargain-basement priced at 99 cents each, and just the thing to spice up a take-out lunch or punctuate a sit-down dinner in the lobby of the Rice Lofts. You might even pocket a few to smuggle into one of the nearby (and otherwise food-less) cocktail lounges to munch with your margaritas.
