National Hamburger Day lands on Thursday, May 28, giving Houstonians a perfectly acceptable excuse to eat a burger for lunch, dinner or both. Restaurants across the city are celebrating with $5 smashburgers, discounted cheeseburgers and limited-time specials topped with everything from brisket to elk. Here’s where to find the deals.

Chardon, 1711 Allen Parkway

National Hamburger Day means Chardon’s Petit Happy Hour Meal is available all day instead of just during happy hour. The $20 special pairs the restaurant’s Royale with cheese with duck fat fries and a martini from open to close on May 28.

Christianโ€™s Tailgate, multiple locations

Christian’s Tailgate is dropping the price of its double smash burger to $5 for National Hamburger Day. The dine-in special runs all day at the sports bar’s Houston-area locations.

Derby at The Shop Club, 13150 Breton Ridge

Tucked inside The Shop Club’s members-only garage and social club surrounded by rare and collector cars, get The Derby Smash Burger ($16), featuring two smashed patties, American cheese, shaved onion, pickles and house sauce on a potato bun.

J-Bar-M Barbecue, 2201 Leeland

The Michelin-recommended EaDo barbecue spot is rolling out a new burger inspired by a piece of Houston history. Named for the former Houlahan’s Hamburgers, the Houlahan Smash Burger features Texas Black Angus beef, American cheese, shredded lettuce, pickles, mustard, mayo and sautรฉed onions. Available as a $12 single or $16 double, it comes with fries and oversized onion rings fried in beef tallow.

A longtime Houston burger destination, Jax Grill keeps things old-school with its Original Jax Burger ($11.95), a mesquite-grilled patty on a toasty bun with mayonnaise and traditional toppings.

Montrose cocktail lounge Jethro’s is offering its popular smashburger-and-fries combo for $7 all day on National Hamburger Day.ย

Killen’s Heights is spotlighting its Texas Brisket Burger for National Hamburger Day and National Brisket Day. The burger features an 8-ounce prime beef patty topped with smoked brisket, cheddar and beer-battered onion rings on a Slowdough bun.


Local Bar, 10615 Fry, 24033 Cinco Ranch

Catch the Astros-Rangers game and save a couple bucks while you’re at it. Local Bar is offering $2 off burgers during the 7:05 p.m. matchup, making it a solid option for dinner, drinks and baseball.

Long Weekend is offering its Axe Breaker Elk Burger ($24), made with elk ground in-house from premium cuts and cooked over live oak. The burger is topped with American cheese, housemade steak sauce, butter lettuce and red onion on milk bread baked with the restaurant’s sourdough starter and rendered beef tallow.

State Fare is knocking $7 off its signature burger for National Hamburger Day, bringing the price down to $12 for one day only. The double cheeseburger comes loaded with lettuce, tomato, onion, bread-and-butter pickles and the restaurant’s house burger sauce on a toasted bun.ย

Trill Burgers, 3607 South Shepherd, 6810 Louetta, 20220 Fort Bend Parkway

Trill Burgers is bringing back its Rodeo-exclusive Chopped Brisket Burger for one day only, available at all three Houston-area locations. Created with J-Bar-M Barbecue, the burger combines Trill’s signature smashburger with chopped brisket, crispy onions, American cheese, coleslaw, onions and pickles, with jalapeรฑos available for extra heat. Fans who missed it during Rodeo season get one more shot.ย
