The menu at Japaneiro’s Sushi Bistro and Latin Grill (2168 Texas Drive in Sugar Land, 281-242-1121) is divided in two. First there’s the Japanese side, with its extensive sushi, sashimi and tempura offerings; then there’s the Latino side, which includes the pinchos platter ($15). Pinchos is Spanish for “skewers”; here, you get four — beef, shrimp, chicken and salmon — marinated and then grilled, for a delightful combination of flavors. They’re served on a bed of gently fried yucca chips that are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and it all comes with a heavenly sauce that’s both sweet and spicy, flavored with jalapeรฑo, garlic and roasted red peppers.
