Happy Hour @ Underbelly Starting Thursday, 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. to close 1100 Westheimer

Beginning today, Chef Chris Shepherd will pay tribute to his fellow chefs and friends around the country by "covering" some of their most influential dishes.

"I've learned so much from other chefs," said Shepherd. "It's an honor for me to show them respect by giving my customers an opportunity to taste these dishes that have inspired me to be a better cook. Hopefully, my customers will seek out some of these restaurants when they travel to experience the original."

The "cover" menu -- available at the UB Wine Bar during happy hour on Monday through Saturday from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 10 p.m. to close -- will change every few months, but for now you can look out for things like Mission Chinese Hot Wings, Peche's Smoked Gulf Fish Dip, and City Grocery Tamales. And since it's happy hour, all wines by the glass are half-off, too.
