The second edition of the PGT Texas Poker Open has begun in Houston, Texas, thanks to a partnership between Champions Club Texas and the PokerGO Tour. Following the success of its inaugural event in 2024, the Texas Poker Open is now the sixth stop of the 2025 PGT season.

In last year’s edition, Re Lin topped the chart to win a cash prize of $400,000 and the Global Poker Award-winning Texas Poker Open belt buckle trophy. In this year’s edition, Champions Club has a fully-packed lineup of 21 events, including seven PGT high roller events and a $2,000,000 guaranteed cash prize from the Main Event.

So far, the Champions Club Texas Championship has announced that eight of its participants have qualified for the season-ending $50,000 freeroll and a dream seat into the PGT Championship. The current leaderboard in the PGT Texas open sees Kevin Kendrick in first position with a total of 396 points, Caleb Shumard sits in second with 330 points, while Jackson White sits third with a total of 319 points.

The Main Event

The biggest highlight of the PGT Texas Open is the Main Event, which kicks off on the 24th of April. It has a $3,300 buy-in, which is not only appealing to seasoned poker players but also emerging talents who wish to showcase their skills. The main event has eight starting flights, giving players multiple opportunities to get a spot in the tournament even on Day 2.

The Main Event is designed to challenge the best minds, as levels will be 40 minutes long. Turbo flights and hyper flights will run for 20 minutes and 15 minutes, respectively. Each player will begin the main event with 60,000 chips and end the first day with approximately 12.5% of the field remaining after day 1.

Day 1 survivors will advance to Day 2, Sunday, April 27. From Day 2, the levels stretch to 60 minutes, allowing for deeper and more tactical gameplay. Multiple entries and late registration are open until the start of level 13.

High Roller Events and the Road to The PGT Championship

The 2025 PGT Texas Poker Open isn’t just about the Main Event, there is a schedule of seven High Roller tournaments, which have buy-ins ranging from $5,300 to $10,300. Among these events are five No-Limit Hold’em tournaments and two Pot-Limit Omaha events, which test the skills and versatility of players.

At the end of tournaments, all players who cash in the Main event or any of the High Roller events will earn PGT leaderboard points, which will contribute to their overall ranking, increasing their chances to qualify for the PGT championship.

The top 40 players on the PGT leaderboard will automatically qualify for the 2025 PGT Championship, which has a $1,000,000 freeroll and a $500,000 first-place prize. There will also be a special entry into the 2025 championship by select Dream Seat winners. The winners will be selected through special events and promotions.
