A Real Fun "Group"

The image of a girl lying bound and gagged on the floor of an apartment is startling. But it's Paige Majko's way of dealing with trauma and terror -- and it's strangely alluring. The work, captured in freeze-frame clarity, is part of the series "Phobias," now on view in the new photography exhibit "Group Dynamics: 15 Artists" at the Houston Foundry.

The exhibit is a showcase of surreal imagery by University of Houston students seeking bachelor's degrees in fine arts. The works run the gamut, taking on religion, psychology, and environmental and social issues.

Don't miss the photos by digital media artist Kara Duval, who participated in the 2005 Yeongwol Photo Festival in South Korea. Their darkened un-world of despair and unmanageable terrain makes Houston seem like paradise. Noon to 5 p.m. Show continues weekends (or by appointment) through April 2.
Fridays, Saturdays, 12-5 p.m. Starts: March 11. Continues through April 23
