Julie Zarate: “Twentieth Century Fox”

Don’t be surprised if some of the women in Julie Zarate’s “Twentieth Century Fox” exhibit look a lot like Julie Zarate. That’s what she meant to do. Zarate, who’s been painting since 1999, says, “I think most artists tend to do self-portraits without knowing it. They become familiar with their own features, and they incorporate them in whatever they do.” Rather than thinking of that as a handicap, she embraced it. Zarate now takes photos of herself and uses them as her models.
