Unbeatable, A Bold New Musical

Laurie Frey and Eric Coble turn cancer into art

When Laurie Frey found a lump in her breast, she waited a full year to go to the doctor. She was too busy, she kept telling herself. Of course, by the time she went in, the cancer had spread and Frey was in for a full-out health crisis. Out of that terrible ordeal she co-wrote a book with Eric Coble called Unbeatable, The Whole Story. Coble then went on to pen Unbeatable, A Bold New Musical that opened to standing ovations at Phoenix Theatre in August. The funny show, which features oddball scenes like a Miss Chemo Pageant dream sequence, focuses on surviving and learning what’s important in life. It’s making a stop at Stages Repertory Theatre before moving to Off Broadway in October. 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 3 and 7:30 p.m. Sundays, 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Through September 28. 3201 Allen Parkway. For information, call 713-527-0123 or visit www.stagestheatre.com. $30.
Wednesdays-Sundays. Starts: Sept. 5. Continues through Sept. 28, 2008
